Philanthropy | Malcolm Gray

My charitable interests are increasingly focused on education and practical opportunities that can make a meaningful difference in individual lives.

I am particularly interested in areas such as access to education, technology and digital resources, initiative and creative problem-solving, and entrepreneurial thinking. I am drawn to opportunities that help people develop their abilities, gain practical skills, and create possibilities for themselves and their communities.

I also value projects where the need is clearly understood, where people close to the community help determine priorities, and where it is possible to see how support is being used and what it is helping to accomplish.

My involvement is still developing, with my current focus centred on Chipembi Girls Secondary School in Zambia and the Douglas Gray Memorial Scholarship Trust Fund established by my father, Harry N. Gray.

Chipembi Girls Secondary School

My family's connection with Chipembi goes back more than a century.

My grandfather, Rev. S. Douglas Gray, began missionary work at Chipembi in what was then Northern Rhodesia in 1913. In 1927, he founded the girls' boarding school at Chipembi that developed into today's Chipembi Girls Secondary School.

That connection continued through later generations of my family and has become increasingly meaningful to me personally through visits to Zambia and renewed contact with Chipembi.

Douglas Gray Memorial Scholarship Trust Fund

The Douglas Gray Memorial Scholarship Trust Fund (DGMSTF) was established by my father, Harry N. Gray, in memory of his father, Rev. S. Douglas Gray. The fund provides scholarship support connected with Chipembi Girls Secondary School, helping students whose financial circumstances might otherwise limit their educational opportunities.

My own involvement is now developing around supporting this existing family scholarship initiative and helping it continue and grow over time. I am particularly interested in maintaining a practical, direct connection with the school and the people administering the scholarship locally.

As this work develops, I plan to use this page to document the scholarship, its history, and its impact.
